Correlation of Colour and Musical Pitch

The correlation of sound vibration and colour is an interesting area to research.  The harmonic frequencies measured from the Earth’s 24-hour spin create a range of vibrational frequencies that seem to correlate with the frequencies of colours.

It would be interesting to see if those with synesthesia see the same colours for these sounds! I suspect, although the numbers line up quite well, that there is more to it than just being orders of magnitude faster than its sound equivalent.

Here are the frequencies of “the 7 visible spectrum colours: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet” according to Google, and I’ve added the closest straight correlation to our sound frequencies generated harmonically from the Earth’s 24-hour spin.

My subjective feelings about the colours associated with sound are in the diagram below – and they are different than the numeric correlation suggests:

  • Red: 4.3 x 10^14 Hz (Natural C# is 4.26666 Hz from the 2nd column, and 4.32 Hz from the 1st column in my diagram below)
  • Orange: 5.0  x 10^14 Hz (E is 5.12 Hz, or 5.0625 Hz if you use the “astral” E from the 3rd column)
  • Yellow: 5.4 x 10^14 Hz. (Natural F is 5.4 Hz ! (half of 10.8 Hz, in the diagram below)
  • Green: 5.6 x 10^14 Hz  (F# (from the 4th column, not shown, is 5.625 Hz)
  • Blue: 6 x 10^14 Hz (Earth rotational G is 6.068146 Hz.  The “G” harmonic in the 3rd column is precisely 6.0 Hz.  Is this why they call it the Blue Planet?
  • Indigo: 6.7 to 7.0 x 10^14 Hz (A in the first column is 6.82666 Hz, in the 3rd column, it is 6.75 Hz)
  • Violet: 7.5  x 10^14 Hz (B-flat is 7.2 Hz.  B is 7.68 Hz from the 1st column, and 7.59375 from the 3rd column)
