SoundBeing is a therapeutic audio application published on Google Play and the Apple App Store by Chords of Creation, Ltd (trading as Harmonics of Nature), registered in the United Kingdom. The developer contact and data controller is Julian Shelbourne — hello@harmonicsofnature.com.

This policy describes how the SoundBeing app accesses, collects, uses, and shares your data. It covers both the mobile application and any related services operated at harmonicsofnature.com.

Summary

SoundBeing is a local-processing wellness app. It generates binaural beats and ambient soundscapes entirely on your device. The app does not require an account and does not record audio from your microphone.

SoundBeing includes an opt-out community research programme — Community Insights — which transmits pseudonymous data (anonymised frequency preferences, colour associations, quality labels, and saved favourite names) to our server for research purposes. This programme is active by default and can be disabled at any time in Settings → Research.

1. Data Stored Locally on Your Device

The following data is stored only on your device and is not transmitted to our servers, unless you participate in Community Insights research (see §2):

DataPurpose
Current playback stateResume audio on foreground return; cleared on app close
App settings (volume, language, accessibility preferences)Restore your configuration on relaunch

2. Community Insights Research — Data Transmitted to Our Server

SoundBeing includes an opt-out community research programme called Community Insights. Its purpose is to build a crowdsourced understanding of how people perceive and experience different sound frequencies. This programme is active by default. You can opt out at any time in Settings → Research, and you can stop further profile submissions at any time via Settings → Research Profile → Reset.

When the programme is active, the following data is transmitted to and stored on our server (hosted by Replit Helium, a managed PostgreSQL service, in the United States):

Identity (anonymised — not personally identifiable)

A randomly generated identifier created by the app on first launch, specific to your app installation. This identifier has no connection to your name, hardware serial number, IMEI, MAC address, or any other real-world identifier, and is replaced entirely if the app is reinstalled or app data is cleared.

Personalisation data (when you save a quality label, colour, description, or use case)

DataExample
Frequency note label being describede.g. “G”, “C#”, “D′”
Your quality labele.g. “Grounded”
Your colour choiceHex code, e.g. “#228B22”
Free-form description or use-case textIn your language of choice
Language / locale at time of entrye.g. “en”, “fr”

Engagement context (transmitted alongside personalisation data)

DataPurpose

3. How We Use This Data

PurposeLegal Basis
Aggregating anonymised perceptions to improve default frequency labels and coloursLegitimate interests (improving the product for all users)
Enabling Community Insights features (e.g. “what others perceive for this frequency”)Legitimate interests
Research correlation: understanding how demographics and sound perception relateLegitimate interests; explicit optional consent for profile data
Internal admin reporting and quality analysisLegitimate interests

We do not sell or share your individual, identifiable data with any third party for advertising or commercial purposes. Anonymous, aggregated insights — statistical patterns across the SoundBeing community that cannot be traced back to any individual — may be used for our own promotional purposes or shared with third parties for research or commercial use.

4. Data We Do NOT Collect

Not collected
Your name, email address, or contact details (through the app)
Audio recorded from your microphone — the app generates audio; it does not record you
Your precise or approximate location
Your contacts, calendar, photos, or files
Any hardware identifiers (IMEI, MAC address, serial number)
IP addresses — our server does not log request IPs

5. Haptic and Device Hardware Access

On supported devices, SoundBeing activates the device vibration motor (haptics) in synchronisation with audio beats, when you enable the haptic feature in Settings. This is a one-directional output signal to the device hardware. No data is read from the vibration sensor.

6. Data Shared with Third Parties

The research data we collect is anonymised — linked by a randomly generated, installation-specific identifier with no connection to your name, email, or any other identifying information. We do not sell it, license it, or share it with any third party for commercial, advertising, or marketing purposes. It is used exclusively for the internal research purposes described in §3.

Data may be disclosed only in the following limited circumstances:

Infrastructure providers

  • Replit Helium (Replit, Inc., USA) — Managed PostgreSQL hosting on which your anonymised research data is stored. Data transferred from the UK/EU to the USA is covered by Standard Contractual Clauses.

Platform providers (independent of Chords of Creation, Ltd)

  • Google Play Services (Android) and Apple App Store (iOS) — May collect their own device-level analytics under their respective privacy policies, independently of any data we collect.
  • Ionic / Appflow — Build and distribution infrastructure only; no user data passes through it.

Legal and business

  • If required by applicable law, court order, or regulatory authority.
  • In the event of a business acquisition or transfer, under the same privacy terms.

7. Your Rights and Controls

In-app controls (immediate — no request needed)

  • Opt out of Community Insights — Settings → Research → disable data collection. No further data will be transmitted from your device.
  • Research Profile — Settings → Research Profile → “Reset” clears the profile from your device and stops further submissions. The anonymised record in our research database is retained, linked only to a randomly generated identifier that is specific to your app installation — not to you, your device, or any hardware identifier. It has no connection to any other installation of the app, and is replaced entirely if the app is reinstalled or app data is cleared.

A note on data identification and deletion

The core research contributions in SoundBeing — frequency quality labels, colour associations, favourite names, and session data — are linked only to a randomly generated, installation-specific identifier that cannot be traced to you or your device by us or any third party. Because no identifying information is attached to these contributions, they are functionally anonymous, and we are unable to isolate or delete an individual’s submissions on request.

Formal rights

Depending on where you live, applicable law may give you rights over any data we hold that can be linked to you. These commonly include the right to access a copy of your data, request its deletion, request that we restrict how we use it, and object to processing. You may also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection or privacy authority in your jurisdiction.

For any enquiry, contact hello@harmonicsofnature.com with “Privacy Request” in the subject line. We will respond within 30 days.

Chords of Creation, Ltd is registered in the United Kingdom. Our lead supervisory authority is the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) — ico.org.uk.

8. Data Retention

Server-side Community Insights data is retained for as long as it provides research value. Because contributions are linked only to an anonymous, installation-specific identifier, they cannot be attributed to any individual and are retained as part of the aggregate research dataset.

Local device data (settings, playback state) is retained until you uninstall the app or clear app data via your device settings.

9. International Transfers

Chords of Creation, Ltd is based in the United Kingdom. When you participate in the Community Insights research programme, anonymised data is transmitted to and stored on our server hosted by Replit Helium (Replit, Inc., USA). This includes anonymised harmonic note personalisation data (quality labels, colour associations, descriptions), saved favourite names, frequency combination names, and collection names. This is the primary international transfer of data in the operation of SoundBeing, and it is conducted under Standard Contractual Clauses as recognised by the UK ICO.

Additionally, the platform providers through which SoundBeing is distributed — Google Play Services (Android) and Apple App Store (iOS) — may independently process device-level data on infrastructure outside the UK or EU, under their own privacy policies and transfer mechanisms.

10. Children’s Privacy

SoundBeing is a therapeutic audio app intended for general audiences. The Community Insights research programme collects only anonymised colour associations, quality labels, and frequency preference data — information that carries no identifying value for any user, regardless of age.

The app is not directed at children under the age of 13 (or under 16 in the EU and UK), and the optional Research Profile fields are not appropriate for children to complete. If a parent or guardian has a question about their child’s use of the app or wishes to prevent further Research Profile submissions, they can use Settings → Research Profile → Reset on the child’s device. For any further enquiry, contact us at hello@harmonicsofnature.com and we will assist promptly.

11. Changes to This Policy

Material changes will be communicated via the app or at harmonicsofnature.com. Continued use of SoundBeing after a policy update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
